The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

The Great Gatsby captures all the romance and glitter of the Jazz Age in its portrayal of a young man and his tragic search for love and success.  It is a rare combination: a literary masterpiece - and one of the most popular novels of our time.  (from back cover)

Sorry I haven't blogged in so long!  I've been slogging my way through several books for school that have taken me awhile so I haven't finished anything all month!  Anyway, here's (at last) a book for you.  The Great Gatsby is a difficult subject to discuss and normally I wouldn't have reviewed it but I think many young adults will have to read it for school so I wanted you to know what you're getting into.  From the back cover,  the "tragic search for love and success", in my opinion, is stupid.  The Jazz Age was mostly about sleeping with other people's spouses, drinking, and partying.  There are frequent uses of 'd---', 'h---', and 'oh my g-d'.  One use of 'b----'.
People are murdered but nothing is graphic.
In my personal opinion, the good part of the book isn't until about halfway through.  That's when the real action begins.  For a book I had to read, it wasn't bad.  The material isn't necessarily wholesome but sometimes you don't have a choice.  : /  Anyway, I hope you don't find it too despicable when you read it - hey, you never know, you might enjoy it.  Let me know what you think in the comments!
Happy reading!
